Furnace, AC & Heat Pump Service in Loomis, CA

Loomis is part small town, part country. Whether your home is on PG&E gas, a propane tank or all-electric decides what your next system should be.

Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned Sacramento-area HVAC contractor that installs and repairs furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems for homes in the Town of Loomis. We work on everything from in-town houses near Taylor Road to rural properties with a shop or guest house out back, and we answer emergencies 24/7.

The first question on most Loomis jobs is fuel. Homes near the town center usually have PG&E natural gas, while rural lots beyond the gas lines may heat with propane. That choice, plus the Town's own permit forms for switching fuels, shapes every quote we write here.

CSLB #956515 Town of Loomis permits PG&E electric Gas, propane & all-electric NATE-certified

North of I-80 or south of it: two kinds of Loomis home

Loomis stayed part of unincorporated Placer County until December 17, 1984, when residents incorporated, partly to avoid being annexed by Rocklin and to keep the town's small-town character. The layout reflects that choice. According to the county's planning documents, the area north of Interstate 80 holds the town's shops, offices and denser housing, ringed by larger semi-rural lots. South of I-80 is almost entirely rural residential.

  • In town. Homes near the old High-Hand and Blue Goose fruit sheds, between Taylor Road (a piece of historic Highway 40) and the Union Pacific tracks, are closer to standard suburban jobs: a gas furnace, a split AC and attic or crawlspace ducts.
  • On acreage. Larger properties often add a barn, workshop, studio or second unit. Each of those may need its own heating and cooling, and running new ducts from the main house rarely makes sense. A ductless mini-split is usually the cleaner answer.
  • Custom and older homes. Many rural homes were built one at a time rather than by a tract builder, so equipment locations, duct layouts and even fuel types vary from house to house. We look before we quote.

Gas, propane or a heat pump: making the call in Loomis

If you have PG&E gas

A high-efficiency gas furnace paired with a new AC is still a solid, familiar setup. If your AC is due at the same time, a heat pump can replace it and handle most of your heating, with the furnace as backup on the coldest mornings.

If you heat with propane

Propane is often the costlier way to run a furnace, and you depend on tank deliveries. A heat pump replaces the propane furnace for heating and the AC for cooling in one outdoor unit. We check your panel and your coldest nights first.

If you are already all-electric

Older electric furnaces and baseboard heaters use far more power than a heat pump for the same heat. Replacing them is often the change with the quickest payoff on a PG&E bill.

Incentives are thin right now in PG&E territory. TECH Clean California's single-family heat pump funds were fully reserved at the time of writing (2026), so we price every option on its own merits and tell you if a program reopens.

What the Town of Loomis asks for on an HVAC permit

California requires a permit for a furnace, AC or heat pump replacement, and Loomis issues its own instead of sending you to Placer County. The Town treats HVAC as an over-the-counter permit. Its mechanical permit checklist is specific about fuel changes:

  • Every HVAC job. Building permit application, a Title 24 CF1R energy form and a declaration that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed.
  • Gas to electric. An electrical load calculation form, to show the panel can carry a heat pump.
  • Electric to gas. A gas piping schematic.
  • The contractor. A Town of Loomis business license and a CSLB license in good standing, or the Town will not process the permit.

Applications go to the Town by email or in person at Town Hall on Taylor Road. A new California building code took effect January 1, 2026, so current submittals follow the 2025 code. HERS verification, such as duct leakage testing, usually follows the install.

Before we quote a system in Loomis, we check

  • Your current fuel: PG&E gas, propane or electric
  • Panel capacity, and whether a load calculation is needed for the Town
  • Outbuildings, studios or second units that need their own heating and cooling
  • Leaves, debris and shade around the outdoor unit on wooded lots
  • Duct condition in crawlspaces and attics before any new equipment goes in

Smoke, burn days and cleaner indoor air

Loomis falls under the Placer County Air Pollution Control District, which sets burn days for yard waste and works with fire officials when fire danger rises. Between spring pollen, summer wildfire smoke drifting down from the foothills and neighbors burning on permitted days, filters work hard here. Upgrading to a deeper media filter or adding whole-home filtration keeps more of it out, as long as the system is set up for the added resistance.

Common questions from Loomis homeowners

Does the Town of Loomis require a permit to replace a furnace or AC?

Yes. HVAC replacements need a Town of Loomis building permit with a Title 24 energy form and a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm declaration. The Town handles HVAC as an over-the-counter permit, and the contractor must hold a Town business license. HERS testing usually applies after the install.

Is a heat pump worth it if my Loomis home runs on propane?

Often, yes. A heat pump replaces both the propane furnace and the air conditioner, and it ends tank refills for heating. We check your electrical panel and size the system for your coldest nights before recommending it.

What paperwork does Loomis need when I switch from gas to electric heat?

Along with the standard application and energy form, the Town asks for an electrical load calculation showing the panel can handle the new equipment. Switching the other way, from electric to gas, requires a gas piping schematic. We prepare both.

How can I heat and cool a workshop or barn on my Loomis property?

Ductless is usually the simplest route. A mini-split needs only a small refrigerant line and power between the indoor and outdoor units, so no ducts have to run from the house. One outdoor unit can serve one or several indoor heads.

Who sets burn days in Loomis?

The Placer County Air Pollution Control District. Burning is allowed only on permissive burn days and only where local rules allow it. Smoke from burning and wildfires is a common reason Loomis homeowners upgrade their air filtration.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
