Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned HVAC contractor that repairs, replaces and installs heating and air conditioning on Rescue's rural and semi-rural properties, from homes along Green Valley Road to hillside parcels off the side roads. We work on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems, with 24/7 emergency service.

What sets Rescue apart is the land. The community center sits around 1,210 feet, and the surrounding hills and valleys run several hundred feet above and below that. Two houses a few miles apart can see noticeably different winter lows, and most sit on lots big enough to have a barn, shop or guest house that needs its own plan.

Before we quote a system in Rescue, we check

  • Your home's elevation and exposure, ridge top or valley bottom
  • Every building that needs heating or cooling, not just the main house
  • How the house grew: original rooms, additions and where the ducts go
  • Heating fuel on site: propane tank, natural gas, electric or wood
  • Electrical panel capacity if you're thinking about going all-electric
  • Oak cover over the condenser location

From Green Valley to Rescue

Rescue was a stop on one of the oldest roads in El Dorado County. The Coloma Road ran through here from Sutter's Fort to Sutter's sawmill at Coloma, and James Marshall rode it carrying the first gold found there in 1848. Later, Pony Express riders changed horses at the Pleasant Grove House on Green Valley Road in 1860 and 1861. The town itself was called Green Valley until 1895, when the post office wanted a less common name. A local miner suggested the name of his claim, the Rescue, and it stuck. The marker for the old Coloma Road, California Historical Landmark #747, stands at the Rescue Junction General Store.

Today Rescue is mostly homes on acreage, oak woodland and pasture, with an older ranch house here and a newer custom home there. That variety is why we don't quote systems by square footage alone.

What makes HVAC different on a Rescue property

Houses that grew in stages

Many rural homes have a family room, primary suite or second story added years after the original build. Those additions are often hung off the end of the original duct system and are the rooms that never get comfortable. Rebalancing, a new branch, zoning or a dedicated ductless mini-split usually fixes them.

Shops, barns and guest houses

A detached workshop or casita rarely makes sense to tie into the house system. A separate mini-split or small packaged system keeps each building on its own thermostat and its own schedule.

Valley bottoms vs ridge tops

Cold air drains downhill on clear winter nights, so low spots get the hardest frost. Ridge-top homes see more wind and sun. We size heat pumps and furnaces to the house's actual site, not a regional average.

Oaks over the condenser

Leaf drop, acorns and pollen pack into outdoor coils. A clogged coil drives up pressure and power use. An annual AC tune-up with coil cleaning, and a clear zone around the unit, protect the compressor.

Questions to settle before a replacement

  • Keep propane, or go electric? If you heat with propane, a heat pump can take over most of the heating load. Some owners keep the furnace as a backup on cold mornings or during power outages. We'll compare the options honestly.
  • Is the panel ready? Older rural homes sometimes have smaller electrical services. A heat pump, plus a shop mini-split, plus an EV charger can add up, so we check capacity before recommending equipment.
  • Who signs off? Rescue is unincorporated, so El Dorado County's Building Division issues the mechanical permit. California requires a permit for an HVAC changeout, and Title 24 usually requires HERS verification, such as a duct leakage test. We take care of both.
  • What about smoke? Wildfire smoke reaches western El Dorado County most fire seasons. Better filtration and sealed ducts keep more of it outside.

Rescue heating and air FAQ

Can one HVAC system serve my house and my detached shop in Rescue?

It's rarely a good idea. Running ducts or refrigerant lines between buildings is costly and the two spaces need different schedules. A separate ductless mini-split for the shop is usually simpler and more efficient.

Why is the addition on my house always too hot or too cold?

Additions are often tied into the end of the original duct system, where airflow is weakest, and they may have more exterior walls and windows. Rebalancing, a new duct branch, zoning or a dedicated ductless unit can fix it. We measure airflow before recommending one.

Does a heat pump work at Rescue's elevation?

Yes. Rescue's town center sits around 1,210 feet, and winter lows there are well within the range of modern heat pumps. Homes in cold valley bottoms may need a model with strong low-temperature output or a backup heat source, which we plan for in the sizing.

Do I need a county permit to replace my furnace in Rescue?

Yes. California requires a permit for replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, and in Rescue that permit comes from El Dorado County. Airflow Heating & Air files it and schedules the inspection and HERS testing.

How often should I clean the outdoor unit if it's under oak trees?

At least once a year, ideally in spring before the heat arrives, and check it again after heavy leaf drop. Keep a couple of feet clear around the unit. A professional tune-up includes a proper coil cleaning and a refrigerant check.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
