Great dude, great team, always gets my houses dialed in perfect ,

Newcastle's hills made it mandarin country, and the same warm days and cold hollows decide how a heat pump or AC performs in your house. We size for your spot, not the valley.

Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned HVAC contractor that repairs and installs air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps and ductless systems in Newcastle, California, the old fruit-shipping town on I-80 where Highway 193 heads west to Lincoln. We work across the Sacramento region and answer emergencies 24/7.
Newcastle is unincorporated Placer County, so HVAC permits come from the county, not from Auburn or Loomis. The bigger local factor is terrain. Homes here sit on hillsides, ridges and creek bottoms at roughly 800 feet, and two houses a short walk apart can see very different winter nights. We size every system for the lot it sits on.
Local farm guides note that more than a dozen microclimates fit along a five-mile stretch of the I-80 corridor between Penryn and Loomis on one end and Lincoln and Newcastle on the other. Warm days and cool nights are why cold-tolerant Owari Satsumas do well on these slopes. Growers plant with care, because on still winter nights cold air slides downhill and pools in low ground.
Your house lives in that same pattern. In winter, the Sacramento Valley often fills with tule fog, a low cloud that usually stays under about 2,000 feet, while the foothills sit in sun above it. Inside a Newcastle neighborhood, though, the coldest spot is usually the lowest one. That shapes how we choose and place equipment.
Cold air settles here first, so nights run colder than the town average. A heat pump in a low spot spends more time in defrost. We check its low-temperature capacity, and we look at dual fuel if you already have gas.
Higher lots stay milder at night but take full afternoon sun. Big view windows facing the valley can overload one side of the house while the other side is comfortable. Zoning or a second system often fixes it better than a bigger AC.
On a sloped lot, the flat spot nearest the house is not always the best spot. We keep the condenser out of a cold drainage path when we can and set it where it can shed defrost water without icing a walkway.
Newcastle began as a mining camp in the early 1850s and moved to its present site in 1864, when the Central Pacific Railroad arrived. The railroad turned it into a fruit town. In 1900 Newcastle shipped 1,054 carloads, over 27 million pounds of fruit, about a sixth of California's deciduous fruit crop. Chinese and Japanese workers did much of the picking and packing, and at least a dozen packing sheds operated at one time. The Newcastle Portuguese Hall on Taylor Road, built in 1917 and 1918, was moved back and raised when old Highway 40 was widened in 1930. Today Highway 193 crosses over the old Highway 40 tunnel that still carries Taylor Road.
The census place counted 1,321 people in 2020, but the 95658 ZIP covers far more ground. That spread shows in the housing:
Plenty of foothill homes still lean on a wood stove or fireplace for winter heat. The Placer County Air Pollution Control District runs a Wood Stove Changeout Incentive Program for county residents whose main heat is an uncertified stove, insert or fireplace (generally anything installed before 1988, and every open fireplace). At the time of writing (2026), the district offers a larger voucher for a heat pump than for a new stove, with higher amounts for qualifying lower-income households. Funding comes and goes, so check the district's page for current amounts.
Two rules matter before you act. You can't remove the old stove or buy the replacement until your voucher is approved. And the new equipment has to be installed by a retailer the district has approved. Ask the district for its participating list before you sign with any company, including us. If you go ahead without the voucher, we'll size a heat pump for the rooms the stove used to heat and seal the ducts that carry it.
Equipment chosen for your lot's coldest nights, whether the house sits in a hollow or on a ridge.
Heating and cooling for older Newcastle buildings, second units and rooms the main system can't reach.
Tightening the long runs in larger hillside homes so the far rooms stop lagging behind.
Fixes for systems that struggle on sun-facing slopes during hot afternoons, with 24/7 emergency service.
Gas and propane furnace repairs when a cold snap settles into the low ground around town.
Better control of dual-fuel systems, so the heat pump carries the mild hours and the furnace takes the coldest ones.
Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned Sacramento-area HVAC contractor. Newcastle is up I-80 past Loomis and Penryn. Call (916) 476-2222 for 24/7 emergency service, or request a free estimate on a new system. Financing is available for qualified customers.
Cold air is heavy, and on calm winter nights it drains downhill and collects in low ground. Placer County's citrus growers plant around the same effect. A home in a hollow can need more heating capacity, and a heat pump there will defrost more often, so we size for your lot.
The Placer County Air Pollution Control District runs a Wood Stove Changeout Incentive Program for residents who heat mainly with an uncertified stove, insert or fireplace. At the time of writing (2026), its vouchers are larger for a heat pump than for a new stove. You need approval before removing the old unit, and the installer must be on the district's participating list, so check with the district first.
No. Newcastle is an unincorporated community, so furnace, AC and heat pump permits come from Placer County Building Services, whose main office is in Auburn. California requires a permit for an HVAC changeout, and HERS verification such as duct leakage testing usually follows. We file the permit and schedule the inspection.
Usually with a ductless mini-split, since old walls and low attics rarely have room for ducts. We start by checking the building's electrical service, because older wiring may need an upgrade before new equipment goes in. Then we plan where each indoor head mounts and how its condensate drains, so the work stays tidy on a building worth keeping intact.
PG&E. Newcastle is on PG&E's list of Placer County communities, so SMUD's heat pump rebates don't apply here. We compare the running cost of gas, propane and heat pump options at PG&E rates before recommending a system.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
