Great dude, great team, always gets my houses dialed in perfect ,

Most Citrus Heights homes went up in the 1970s and 1980s. We repair and replace the systems in them, pull the City of Citrus Heights permit and handle the inspection.

Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned Sacramento HVAC contractor that repairs and replaces air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps for Citrus Heights homes, apartments and small businesses. We're licensed under CSLB #956515, our technicians are NATE-certified, and emergency service runs 24/7.
The defining fact about Citrus Heights housing is its age. Census-based figures put the median home here at 1977, and the 1970s produced more homes than any other decade. That means many houses are on their second or third HVAC system and still running the original attic ducts.
Citrus Heights was largely rural until the 1960s. Then ground broke for Sunrise Mall in 1970, Birdcage Walk followed across Sunrise Boulevard in 1976, and subdivisions filled in around the Sunrise and Greenback corridor. Roughly four in ten homes in the city date from that one decade, with another large group from the 1980s. A 1977 single-story ranch home has a set of HVAC habits we see over and over.
Equipment gets swapped every 15 to 20 years. Ducts often don't. Ducts from the 1970s and 1980s, with dried-out tape at every joint, can leak a large share of the cooled air into an attic that tops 130 degrees in summer. Duct repair or replacement often matters as much as the new unit.
Many homes still carry the tonnage someone picked decades ago, before the windows, attic insulation or roof changed. We run a load calculation on the house as it is now. Sometimes the right answer is a smaller system, which runs longer cycles and pulls more humidity out of the air.
Units from before 2010 commonly use R-22, which is no longer produced in the US, so recharging one gets costly. Furnaces from the same era may have worn heat exchangers. When repair quotes start climbing on a system that old, we'll lay out repair and replacement side by side.
Citrus Heights is SMUD territory for electricity, with natural gas from PG&E. For a 1970s home with a tired gas furnace and an aging AC, replacing both with one heat pump is often worth pricing out. Citrus Heights winters bring tule fog and frosty mornings, but not the long hard freezes that make heat pumps struggle.
SMUD increased its heat pump rebates in February 2026, after federal tax credits for home efficiency upgrades ended on December 31, 2025. At the time of writing (2026), SMUD lists up to $3,000 for converting from gas heat to a heat pump HVAC system. Funding and terms change, so we'll point you to the current program details when we quote. Airflow is a participating contractor in SMUD's Contractor Network, so we can submit the paperwork for you.
Before a conversion, we also look at your electrical panel. Some older homes have smaller electrical service, and adding a heat pump can push the panel to its limit. Better to know that before install day.
Failed capacitors, worn contactors and leaking coils on the older condensers common in Sunrise Ranch and Birdcage Heights.
New central air for homes that only had a swamp cooler or window units, with ducts designed for the floor plan.
New gas furnaces for homes keeping PG&E gas, often in the same hall closet or garage spot as the 1970s original.
Crushed, disconnected or brittle attic ducts replaced and sealed, the most common hidden problem in Citrus Heights houses.
A modern thermostat in place of the old dial or mercury unit, set up to work with SMUD's time-of-day rates.
Citrus Heights became a city on January 1, 1997, after voters approved cityhood the previous November. Since then, building permits here have come from the City of Citrus Heights Building & Safety Division at 6360 Fountain Square Drive, not from Sacramento County. The city's own permit guide lists new or replacement air conditioning and heating systems as work that needs a permit, and HVAC permits can be applied for through the city's online portal.
California's Title 24 energy code usually adds HERS verification on a changeout, such as a duct leakage test by an independent rater. In a 1970s house, that test sometimes reveals duct problems you would want fixed anyway. We file the permit, coordinate the HERS rater and meet the city inspector.
Citrus Heights has plenty of apartment complexes and older retail and office buildings along Sunrise Boulevard, Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard. We work on multi-family and light commercial systems too, including rooftop and split systems. For property owners, we can plan replacements unit by unit to keep tenants comfortable while the work happens.
Citrus Heights is close to the center of our service area, and we work there every week. Call (916) 476-2222 for a repair, a tune-up or a free estimate on a new system, or reach us online. Financing is available for qualified customers.
The City of Citrus Heights Building & Safety Division, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive. The city has issued its own permits since incorporating in 1997, and it requires a permit for new or replacement heating and air conditioning systems. Your contractor normally applies for it.
Often, yes. Original 1970s ductwork has usually lost insulation, sagged or come apart at joints after 50 years in a hot attic. Since a changeout typically requires a duct leakage test anyway, it's the right time to inspect the ducts and decide whether to repair, seal or replace them.
For a small fix like a capacitor or contactor, usually yes. For a refrigerant leak, it's often not, because R-22 is no longer made in the US and recharging is expensive. If the system is 15 years or older and has a leak, replacement is usually the better use of money.
Citrus Heights is in SMUD's electric service area, so most homeowners can apply for SMUD's heat pump incentives. At the time of writing (2026), SMUD offers its largest rebate for converting from gas heat to a heat pump. Check SMUD's current program page, since amounts and funding change.
Yes. We work on single-family rentals, apartment buildings and light commercial spaces. We can schedule around tenants and phase replacements across multiple units.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
