Great dude, great team, always gets my houses dialed in perfect ,

North Highlands grew up around McClellan Air Force Base. We service the homes built for its workforce and the businesses now operating on the former base.

Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned Sacramento HVAC contractor that repairs and replaces air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps and ductwork in North Highlands, CA, including light commercial work at McClellan Park. North Highlands is unincorporated Sacramento County, so SMUD supplies the power and Sacramento County issues the permits.
Most of the community was built in the decades after World War II as housing for people working at McClellan Air Force Base. The typical home here is older than in neighboring Antelope, and the ductwork and equipment show it.
The Sacramento Air Depot opened in 1936 and became McClellan Air Force Base in 1948. North Highlands was laid out as a suburb for the airmen and civilian workers who staffed it. By 1960, the first year it appeared in the census, it had about 21,000 residents. It passed 42,000 by 1990 and counted about 49,300 in 2020. Some neighborhoods, like McClellan Meadows, still have houses from 1953, and the median home in North Highlands dates from the early 1970s.
For heating and cooling, that history means three things. Many of the oldest houses were built before central air was common, so AC was added later. Ducts are often original or patched together from several eras. And a lot of homes are now rentals, where equipment gets fixed just enough to keep running.
When air conditioning was added to an older home, the installer often reused ducts sized for heat only. Small trunks and a single return starve a modern system of air. It runs long, freezes up or short-cycles. Replacing the outdoor unit alone won't fix that.
Under California's Energy Code, replacing a condenser, coil or furnace is an alteration that usually requires a HERS-verified duct leakage test. Old, leaky ducts in North Highlands often need sealing to pass. One exception: existing ducts insulated or sealed with asbestos don't have to be tested, and that material should be left undisturbed or handled by an abatement contractor.
We work for owners and property managers as well as homeowners. For rentals we give a clear repair-or-replace answer and coordinate access with tenants.
The 1995 base closure decision put more than 11,000 jobs at risk and stalled growth across North Highlands for years. The Air Force, Sacramento County and the developer started a "hot transfer," moving private businesses into empty buildings before the base formally closed on July 13, 2001. Today McClellan Park holds more than 8 million square feet of office, industrial, retail, airport, rail and hotel space, plus housing.
Many of those buildings were built for military use and adapted for new tenants, so the mechanical systems vary a lot from suite to suite. We take on light commercial work there and in the shopping centers around North Highlands:
Diagnosis on older condensers, including R-22 units that need an honest repair-or-replace call.
New systems matched to what your ducts can actually move, with the county permit and HERS test handled.
Resizing or replacing undersized and patched ductwork in mid-century and 1970s homes.
New gas furnaces for homes still running decades-old equipment, sized for the house as it is now.
All-electric heating and cooling that can qualify for SMUD rebates when it replaces a gas furnace.
Spring cooling checks for McClellan Park suites and storefronts before the 100°F days arrive.
North Highlands gets the full Sacramento Valley summer. Sacramento has averaged about 24 triple-digit days a year since 1990, and 2024 broke the old record of 44 such days. Older systems on undersized ducts are the ones that give out during those stretches, so a spring AC tune-up is worth more here than in a newer neighborhood.
Wildfire smoke has settled over the valley in many recent summers too. A better filter rack or a media filter is a cheap upgrade in an older home, as long as the ducts can handle the extra resistance. We check static pressure before recommending one.
If you're replacing a gas furnace anyway, ask about a heat pump. SMUD raised its heat pump rebates in 2026 after federal credits ended, and at the time of writing (2026) the largest rebates go to gas-to-electric conversions. Since 2020 we've been a participating contractor in SMUD's Contractor Network, which lets us submit the rebate for qualifying projects. Amounts depend on funding, so we'll confirm before you commit.

Yes. Airflow Heating & Air does light commercial HVAC, including repairs, maintenance and replacements for offices, shops and small industrial suites at McClellan Park. Our work is light commercial, so if your building runs on a large central plant, we'll say so up front.
Many homes here had air conditioning added years after they were built, often on ducts sized for heating only. Small ducts and a single small return restrict airflow no matter how good the outdoor unit is. Resizing ducts or adding a return usually fixes it.
North Highlands is unincorporated, so Sacramento County Building Permits and Inspection issues mechanical permits, including for McClellan Park. A replacement usually needs a HERS-verified duct leakage test under California's Energy Code. We file the permit and arrange the inspection.
A small electrical repair can be worth it. A refrigerant leak usually isn't, because R-22 is no longer produced and has become expensive. We'll give you both prices so you can compare.
Yes. We service rentals and small multi-family buildings in North Highlands and can quote several units at once. Free estimates apply to new system installs.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
