Great dude, great team, always gets my houses dialed in perfect ,

Most of Arden-Arcade was built between 1945 and 1970. We fit modern heating and cooling into mid-century houses without fighting their design.

Airflow Heating & Air is a family-owned Sacramento HVAC contractor that services, repairs and replaces heating and air conditioning in Arden-Arcade, CA, with a focus on getting modern equipment to work well in mid-century houses. We also handle light commercial work in the shopping centers along Arden Way, Watt Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard.
Arden-Arcade is still unincorporated, after voters turned down cityhood in 2010, so Sacramento County issues permits and SMUD supplies the power. Most homes here were built between 1945 and 1970, and that age shapes almost every HVAC decision: duct condition, where equipment can go and whether a heat pump or mini-split fits better than a furnace.
Arden-Arcade sits on part of the old Rancho Del Paso, where James Ben Ali Haggin bred racehorses. A land company bought much of the ranch in 1910 and marketed it for citrus and olives. The first neighborhoods came in the 1920s and 1930s, but the Arden-Arcade most people know was built right after World War II, by developers and builders including Jere Strizek, the Streng Brothers and Randolph Parks. Town and Country Village, Country Club Centre and later Arden Fair grew up alongside the subdivisions.
Houses from that era were designed around different heating and cooling assumptions than today's. Here's what we run into most.
Many mid-century modern homes have open-beam ceilings, flat or low-pitch roofs and little or no attic. There's nowhere to hide a new duct run. Ductless mini-splits or a carefully planned heat pump system can cool these houses without dropping soffits through the living room.
Air conditioning was often added to these houses years after they were built, using ducts sized for heat. Original ducts may be undersized, leaky or crushed. We measure airflow before we size equipment, because a bigger unit on the same ducts just gets louder.
Some homes from this period have ducts insulated or sealed with asbestos-containing material. California's Energy Code doesn't require leakage testing of existing ducts insulated or sealed with asbestos, and that material shouldn't be disturbed. If ducts need to come out, a licensed abatement contractor handles removal first.
Arden-Arcade isn't one neighborhood. Del Paso Manor and the streets off Watt Avenue are mostly modest postwar ranch homes. Along the American River, Arden Park, Sierra Oaks, Sierra Oaks Vista, Wilhaggin and Arden Oaks have larger custom homes on deep lots with mature landscaping. Each brings its own HVAC issues.
Cooling and heating for open-beam mid-century homes that have no attic for ducts.
Replacing old gas furnaces with all-electric systems, with SMUD rebate eligibility confirmed first.
Resizing and replacing postwar ductwork that was never meant to carry air conditioning.
Repairs on systems working under heavy tree cover and on long triple-digit stretches.
Keeping older gas furnaces safe and running through foggy Sacramento winters.
Whole-home purifiers and UV lights for households dealing with pollen from mature landscaping or summer wildfire smoke.
In November 2010, Arden-Arcade voters rejected Measure D, which would have made the area its own city, by roughly three to one. So the community is still governed by Sacramento County. HVAC permits come from Sacramento County Building Permits and Inspection, not the City of Sacramento, even if your mailing address says "Sacramento." California requires a permit to replace heating or cooling equipment, and swapping a condenser, coil or furnace usually triggers a HERS-verified duct leakage test. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection.
The county connection also covers wood smoke. Sacramento's Check Before You Burn season runs from November 1 through the end of February, and it applies in unincorporated Arden-Arcade. Plenty of older homes here have a fireplace. If you've been leaning on the fireplace, the Sac Metro Air District's daily burn status is a good reason to make sure your central heat is in shape.
For commercial owners and tenants, we do light commercial service and replacements for small offices and retail spaces around Arden Way, Watt Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard. Sacramento County checks commercial HVAC change-outs for both mechanical and electrical work, and we plan the schedule around that.
Arden-Arcade sits in the middle of our Sacramento service area, and we work there every week. Call (916) 476-2222 for repairs and 24/7 emergency service, or set up a free estimate for a new system.
Often the better answer is ductless mini-splits. Many mid-century modern homes in Arden-Arcade have open-beam or low-slope ceilings with no room for ducts. Mini-splits mount on walls, need only a small line set to the outdoor unit and can cool and heat each area separately.
Sacramento County. Arden-Arcade is unincorporated after voters rejected cityhood in 2010, so Sacramento County Building Permits and Inspection issues HVAC permits even for addresses that say "Sacramento." We file the permit and arrange the inspection as part of the job.
Usually, yes. California's Energy Code doesn't require leakage testing of existing ducts insulated or sealed with asbestos, so a system can often be replaced while leaving those ducts undisturbed. If the ducts themselves need to be replaced, a licensed abatement contractor removes the material first.
At least once a year, ideally in spring before the heat. Leaves, seeds and debris from mature trees clog outdoor coils, which makes the system work harder and can cause it to shut down on hot days. Keeping a couple of feet clear around the unit helps too.
It's worth pricing. SMUD raised its heat pump rebates in 2026, and at the time of writing the largest go to replacing gas heat. As a SMUD Contractor Network participant since 2020, we can submit the rebate for a qualifying system. In an older home we also check the electrical panel and ducts first, since those can change the total cost.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
