Airflow Heating & Air repairs central air conditioners and heat pumps in Rancho Cordova, La Riviera and Rosemont, with 24/7 emergency service. A NATE-certified technician finds the actual cause, gives you a written price, and only starts once you approve it. We work on single-family homes, apartments and light commercial systems.

Most no-cool calls here come during the long stretches of triple-digit heat, when a part that was already weak finally fails. The usual culprits are electrical parts at the outdoor unit, a refrigerant leak, or airflow that has been choked off by a dirty filter or a damaged attic duct.

What usually breaks in a Rancho Cordova heat wave

Outdoor unit hums but the fan won't spin

A failed run capacitor or a pitted contactor is the most common hot-weather repair. Heat speeds up their wear, and they often give out in the late afternoon when the system has been running for hours. Both are quick parts to replace once they're confirmed with a meter.

Ice on the lines, warm air inside

Frost on the copper lines or the indoor coil means too little airflow or too little refrigerant. We check the filter, blower and ducts first, then measure pressures and temperatures. If refrigerant is low, there is a leak, and topping it off without finding it only buys a few weeks.

Running all day and never catching up

In the older homes near Folsom Boulevard, a system that can't hold temperature is often losing cold air through crushed or disconnected attic ducts. In newer homes it's more often a dirty outdoor coil or a refrigerant charge that was never set right. We measure before we guess.

Water where it shouldn't be

A clogged condensate drain can overflow the pan in an attic or garage unit and stain the ceiling below. Clearing and flushing the line, and adding or testing the float switch that shuts the system off before it overflows, prevents a repeat.

How a repair visit works

  1. Call or send a request. Tell us what the system is doing. For no cooling on a hot day, a gas smell or water leaking through a ceiling, call (916) 476-2222 any time.
  2. Diagnosis. The technician checks the thermostat, electrical parts, airflow, refrigerant pressures and temperatures, and the drain, then explains what failed and why.
  3. Written price. You get the repair price before any work starts. If the system is old enough that replacement makes more sense, we say so and show you both numbers.
  4. Repair and test. After the fix, we run the system and confirm it's cooling properly, not just running.

Repair it or replace it?

A repair is usually the right call when the system is in reasonable shape and the failed part is a capacitor, contactor, motor or drain. Replacement starts to make sense when several of these line up:

  • Age. Central air systems in the Sacramento Valley work hard, and once a system is in its mid-teens, a major repair is often money spent on equipment near the end of its life.
  • R-22 refrigerant. Systems built for R-22 use a refrigerant that hasn't been produced in the U.S. since 2020. Leaks on these units get more expensive to fix every year.
  • Compressor or coil failure. These are the most expensive parts in the system, and on an older unit their cost can approach a large share of a new one.
  • Gas furnace due for replacement too. Rancho Cordova is in SMUD territory, and at the time of writing (2026) SMUD's largest HVAC rebate goes to replacing gas heat with a heat pump. See how the SMUD heat pump rebate works.

If replacement is the better path, our AC installation page for Rancho Cordova covers sizing, permits and rebates.

Before you call: five quick checks

  • Thermostat. Make sure it's set to Cool, the setpoint is below room temperature, and the batteries aren't dead.
  • Breakers. Check both the indoor and outdoor breakers. If one trips again right after you reset it, leave it off and call us.
  • Filter. A clogged filter can freeze the coil and stop cooling on its own. Replace it if it's dark or bowed.
  • Ice. If the lines or coil are frozen, switch the thermostat to Off with the fan On so the ice melts before the technician arrives.
  • Outdoor unit. Clear leaves, cottonwood fluff and anything stacked against it. Units near the American River Parkway collect more of this than most.

All-electric homes, apartments and rentals

Some of Rancho Cordova's newest neighborhoods are built all-electric, so the cooling system is a heat pump. It cools the same way an air conditioner does, but it also heats the house all winter, so a cooling failure usually means a heating failure later. We repair heat pumps of all major brands, including the reversing valve and defrost controls that a standard AC doesn't have.

For property managers and landlords with units across Rancho Cordova's apartment complexes, we can work through a list of units, keep tenants informed and give you a written summary for each one.

No cooling right now?

Call (916) 476-2222 any time, day or night, for emergency AC repair in Rancho Cordova, La Riviera or Rosemont. For a non-urgent repair, send us the details and we'll set a time that works for you.

Rancho Cordova AC repair FAQ

Do you offer emergency AC repair in Rancho Cordova?

Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency service for Rancho Cordova, La Riviera and Rosemont. On a day over 100 degrees, a household with older adults, infants or anyone with a health condition should treat no cooling as urgent and call right away.

How much does AC repair cost?

It depends on what failed. A capacitor or a drain cleaning costs far less than a refrigerant leak repair or a compressor. We diagnose the problem first and give you a written price before any repair work begins, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Why is my AC running but not cooling?

The most common causes are a dirty filter, a frozen coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed outdoor fan or capacitor, or leaky attic ducts dumping cold air into the attic. A technician can tell which one by measuring temperatures, pressures and airflow.

Does an AC repair need a permit in Rancho Cordova?

Most repairs, like replacing a capacitor, a contactor or a fan motor, or clearing a drain, don't. Replacing major equipment such as the outdoor unit, the indoor coil or the whole system does. Inside city limits that permit comes from the City of Rancho Cordova; in La Riviera and Rosemont it comes from Sacramento County.

Can you fix the heat pump in my new all-electric home?

Yes. Heat pumps share most of their parts with air conditioners, plus a reversing valve and defrost controls. We repair both cooling and heating problems, and we check airflow and refrigerant charge, which matter even more on a system that runs year-round.

My Rancho Cordova AC still uses R-22. Should I repair it?

A small electrical repair can still make sense. A refrigerant leak or compressor failure on an R-22 system usually doesn't, because the refrigerant is no longer produced in the U.S. and is expensive to buy. We'll give you the repair price and a replacement option so you can compare.

We are thrilled with Oleg and the work he and his team did to install a heat pump, remove the A/C and detangle our hydronic heating system! The price was great, the work was great, the follow-up and follow-through were great. The team was super fast, getting it all done in one day. Oleg is such a great guy - extremely thorough, kind and does such good work. The inspector said "wow, he did a really clean job". We will highly recommend Oleg to anyone who needs HVAC!

I can’t say enough about Oleg and his staff, they were truly professional from initial diagnosis to installation. My heating system ceased working and my family and I were left in the cold. I reached out to Airflow based on the superlative reviews I saw in my research. Oleg came out and knew exactly what my issue was and also uncovered a problem with my dampening system which for the past 25 years no one was able to correct. Oleg told me what I needed, no sales pressure, promised to send me an estimate that day which he did. The cost was exceptionally fair and coupled with the impression Airflow had made I decided to go with them without further research or estimates for price comparisons….wasn’t necessary, this was the guy. I requested early January thinking I could tough it out, however it just got too uncomfortable in the house. I reached out to Oleg who by the way was quite busy and he moved some stuff around and did the entire install the next day. My home is now warm and comfortable. Oleg was a pleasure to deal with. This guy is an Einstein when it comes to HVAC and I will not do business with anyone else from this point forward. Thanks Oleg, you and your staff are top notch. My HVAC system has never operated at this level before.

We highly recommend Airflow Heating & Air for your heating or air conditioning needs. Oleg and his crew installed 2 independent systems in our 2-story home built in the early 1900s. Both the Daikin mini-split and the Goodman heat pump system work to perfection, keeping our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What we appreciated most, along with professionalism and a clean job site, was Oleg’s genuine interest in ensuring that we were completely satisfied with the installations.

I’ve used Airflow Heating and Air for years for both my personal home and multiple rental properties. These guys are truly top-notch. What sets Airflow apart is their honesty and thoroughness. Instead of immediately pushing a full system replacement like many HVAC companies do, AirFlow takes the time to properly diagnose the issue and recommend repairs whenever possible, always keeping my budget in mind. They clearly explain the options so you can make an informed decision without pressure. When a full replacement is necessary, they’re just as impressive. I’ve trusted Airflow with two complete system replacements, and both were smooth, professional, and fairly priced. They handled the entire process including permits and inspections which made everything incredibly easy for me and my tenants. Overall, Airflow Heating and Air has been reliable, professional, and easy to work with every step of the way. Their communication is excellent, their work is high quality, and they truly stand behind what they do. I trust them completely and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service! 10/10

Oleg was referred to me by my neighbor. My neighbor said he will never go with anyone else for his HVAC needs - and I now I understand why! Both times I reached out, he responded to me within minutes, and came out to my house the very next day. He's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, and just an all around cool dude. Thanks, Oleg!
